What was your rehearsal process like?

Since we filmed Lola's scenes first, she and I rehearsed all of our scenes before we started shooting.  I wanted to get our relationship arc down before we started filming, but with the other characters, rehearsals were still going on the days we weren't filming (since we only filmed on weekends, we had the whole week available for prep).  For Jamie, I videotaped myself going through the whole script a few times and watched myself while I took notes.  This was helpful, but not nearly as much as watching the dailies from the scenes we had shot.  Since we filmed over a three month period and I had plenty of down time when we weren't shooting, I really grew as an actor; as I watch the film now, I can tell which scenes we shot at the beginning of the summer and which we shot later on.  As with any film, I knew ahead of time that there would be growth and development with the actors and characters during the shooting process, so we saved the scenes that really count for later in the schedule.

For Jill, we rehearsed our scenes as we went.  We both understood our arc quite clearly (it was a lot less subtle than Lola and Jamie's arc), and we wanted the scenes to be fresh in our memory when we shot them, so our rehearsals were more piecemeal.  To keep our interactions fresh, we didn't read from the script too much but rather talked about the scenes, the film, and other more random topics.  It was this process of getting to know each other that really helped us out when we shot the scenes; there was both a sense of spontaneity and freshness along with a chemistry and understanding.
